Meyer-Optik’s Revived Primoplan 58mm Features “Legendary Bokeh”

Meyer-Optik has been on a tear these last two years, successfully reviving their trioplan line of lenses, known for their soap bubble bokeh, and bringing them into the digital age. Well, now Meyer-Optik is setting their sights on reviving another legendary lens line of theirs – the Primoplan line.

Over the weekend Meyer-Optik launched a new kickstarter campaign, the same engine and formula they used with great success to revive the Trioplan line, for a new modern version of the famed Primoplan 58mm F/1.9. This lens, first introduced to the world over 80 years ago, was known for its incredible sharpness and an incredible bokeh, and just as they did before, Meyer-Optik plans to make this lens available to the world on virtually every modern lens mount.

Early backers to the kickstarter were able to snag the lens for a steal of $499, but those offers are since used up. There are still some discounted lenses available, but at a slightly higher price of $649, a $100 discount over the expected retail price tag of $749 once the lens is officially available.

In just the few days since the kickstarter went live the campaign has already blown past their $50,000 goal and are currently around the $350,000 mark with 29 days to go.
