Description
This is it, this is your moment. If you’re sick of your phone, social media, and recognize that your sensory and nervous system are constantly being bombarded by stimuli, then here’s the moment where you can start to take more control over your life. Join Vipassana certified Meditation Teacher and Phoblographer Editor in Chief Chris Gampat for an inner imagery meditation ceremony. Immediately following this will be a very special tea ceremony involving tea from ancient trees.
Who: This Vipassana workshop is really designed for anyone. But the folks who will get the most out of it are photographers and and those who are working to build their meditation practice. The focus will be seated meditation that embraces the idea of absolute acceptance of the self and chanelling what comes up in your own mind so that you may turn it into imagery later.
In Vipassana meditation, certain meditation aids can be used. Because we use our eyes all the time, and because of my specific background with being legally blind, please know that you will get more out of this class if you bring either a hoodie or a winter hat of some sort that goes over your eyes. It’s encouraged but not required to fast from solid foods for at least 12 hours while staying hydrated to receive the deeper effects. If your body is in ketosis, then even better. We’ll explain this in class.
The group will choose a communal focus aid together before you go into the room: either incense, the sound of rain at night in the forest, or absolute nothing (the biggest challenge).
For time (not fully set), attendees will sit in absolute silence.
What: You’ll learn how to find a way to sit in a way that works for you and allows maximum air flow, how to adapt your body for comfort, and a method I practice called rectangle breathing. You’ll be taught a mantra to say in your second language that we will develop based on the elements. Cost is $90 and includes a community table tea session. Minimum 8 people
When: Postponed to June 27th, 2026 at 11am EDT
Where: Secret New York City location until 24 hours before the event.
Why: If you’ve ever wanted to find ways to calm yourself, find inner imagery, and to observe various methods on how to do so.
