The 11th edition of the International Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards has finally unveiled its winners. Anyone who has been in the genre knows landscape photography is a mix of several things: timing, talent, challenges, and decent gear. And if even one is missing, the entire pyramid comes crashing down. But this year’s winners have overcome everything thrown their way to push the boundaries of the genre further. And the winning images will blow your mind, as they did with ours.
The lead image is by Ignacio Palacios. All the images have been used with permission from the International Landscape Photographer of the Year.
This year, the title of International Landscape Photographer of the Year goes to Canadian photographer Andrew Mielzynski, who was chosen from among over 3000 entries. He was chosen for his stunning portfolio of images, which felt like reading lines of poetry and making us appreciate the natural world more.
Speaking about his image, one of the judges said, “The Landscape Photographer of the Year requires more than a single good image – it requires four great images. This is why we have two award categories – the photograph of the year (for single images) and the photographer of the Year for a portfolio of work. I’m not for a minute suggesting that taking one good photograph is easy, but I am suggesting to create a set of strong image is even harder. So congratulations.”
The 2024 jury consisted of David Burnett, Co-Founder of Contact Press Images; Kaye Davis, NZIPP Grand Master of Photography; Jim M. Goldstein, Professional & Fine Art Photographer; Tim Parkin, Landscape Photographer and Editor of On Landscape Magazine; Tony Hewitt, 2023 International Landscape Photographer of the Year; and Peter Eastway, Chairman of Judges and AIPP Grand Master of Photography.
Since the aim of the awards is to give participants the chance to showcase their work, they also choose Top 101 images in addition to the five special subject awards. The International Landscape Photographer of the Year accepts entries into Top 101, where people from both amateur and professional categories get to showcase their talents.
This year, the prize pool was $12,500 in cash prizes, which will be divided amongst the 11 winners. The awards will also publish an exclusive photo book online and in print and NiSi filters. For more information, visit the award’s website.
