First Impressions: Capture One Latitude Style Packs (Very Versatile)

The new Capture One Latitude Style Packs deliver some of the most versatile looks of any style packs yet.

Today, Capture One is announcing two new style packs under their new Latitude series: Pacific and Infinite Peaks. These were put together in collaboration with photographers Bryan Minear and John Schell. They’re designed for a variety of different needs; both of these shooters come from different backgrounds. In each style pack, which will run you $34 for a limited time, you’ll get a few presets (or styles) to apply to your imagery and manipulate however you’d like. If you want both, you’ll be able to grab them for $49 for a limited time. Like all other Capture One style packs, they’re easy to import into your software and immediately begin working with. We took a look at them before release and they may be our favorite official packs, even over the Editorial. However, they’re still not beating RNI Films.

After That Adobe Price Increase, I’m So Happy I Switched to Capture One

photography software guides

Photographers are clamoring and complaining about the Adobe price increase test, and Capture One has never looked sweeter.

Before I go on, I should mention that this isn’t a sponsored post. So, any accusations of that can go out the window with both our 10 year long policy and the fact that we clearly label everything that is sponsored. This isn’t my rubbing “I told you so” into your face either. This is my call to remind everyone that there is another option arguably better in every single way than Adobe. The way that I like to describe an Adobe relationship is to make it synonymous to an abusive relationship or a drug. You keep coming back for more and more. You know it’s bad. You know you can do better. But yet for some odd reason you decide you’re happier being comfortable. That comfort means sometimes you sustain but more of the time you just don’t grow.

How I Edit Photos in Capture One Pro and Affinity Photo

Take your architectural photos to the next level by using the two most powerful editing programs available – Capture One Pro (v12) and Affinity Photo.

In this tutorial I show you my simple architectural photography workflow while editing an image in Capture One Pro and then doing the finish work in Affinity Photo – no Photoshop needed! Knowing how to edit your raw photos is an important step to delivering great photos to your clients. Adobe Photoshop may be considered the industry standard and go-to software for many creatives, but I have always had a hate/love/hate relationship with Photoshop and Lightroom over the years.  It’s often buggy, sluggish (no matter how maxed out my computer is), and never gives me the absolute image quality I know my cameras are capable of – and that I demand.

We’ve Updated Our Canon EOS R Review: RAW Edits in Capture One 12

The Canon EOS R proves to have very versatile RAW files in Capture One 12.

With the Canon EOS R, we’ve found that the RAW files in Capture One 12 are surprisingly robust and yet even more capable than they are in Lightroom. Personally speaking, I bought the Canon EOS R because of both the lenses and how it renders skin tones. I still stand by this, but I’ve also been pleasantly surprised at how good the image quality output is in general. The colors are fantastic, the high ISO output is more than good enough or both the web and prints, and the dynamic range has proved itself to be very useful.

We’ve Updated Our Nikon z7 Review: RAW Edits in Capture One 12

Now that Capture One 12 is out, we’ve updated our Nikon z7 review.

The Nikon z7 finally has support from Capture One 12 after the recent update, and so we’ve added this to our Nikon z7 review along with a comparison to what we did when editing in Adobe Lightroom. Editing in both programs when it comes to the Nikon z7 is interestingly different. Both programs showcase the Nikon z7 as a very capable camera, but the way that the editing happens is much different. In addition to that, both programs are capable of delivering much different looking images.

Tutorial Video: Editing a Black and White Photo in Capture One 12

In Capture One 12, it’s pretty easy to get a better black and white image with just a bit of thought and understanding.

Capture One 12 is out now, and we’ve given it an Editor’s Choice Rating. We’re very aware that more of you are interested in working with the system and so we recently finished a video we published to our YouTube channel all about how to create a better black and white photo using two specific images. Capture One gets right into it by giving you a specific area for a conversion to black and white along with the manipulation. My goal here was to create an image inspired by the look of Sin City–but without the spot color.

Review: Capture One 12 (Most of the Enhancements We Really Needed and Wanted)

photography software guides

We’ve been waiting patiently for Capture One 12; it’s finally here.

I’ve made a conscious effort in the past few years to move away from Adobe Lightroom Classic CC in every way possible. With today’s release of Capture One 12 I can say with certainty that it does most of what Lightroom does even better. There is a big emphasis on most, but the truth is Capture One 12 will do everything better than Lightroom does for most photographers. In that previous sentence there is a HUGE emphasis on everything. With today’s announcement integrating into Capture One 12 the addition of plugins, a variety of masks, and the long awaited Fujifilm Film Simulation additions, there are lots of major reasons why Capture One 12 is the best version yet.

At the same time though, it still isn’t the most perfect program out there.

The two newest packs are the Sunbound and Deep Forest packs.

After 6+ Months with Capture One, I’m Coming Back to Lightroom

Around the beginning of this year, I decided to switch to Capture One, and I loved it. But after 6+ months I am coming back to Lightroom.

If you have been reading the internet for the last year or two you would be hard-pressed not to notice the uptick in photographers unhappy with Adobe Lightroom and it’s nearly constant performance issues. Unsurprisingly, this also is when we started to really see a rise in photographers denouncing Lightroom in favor of PhaseOne’s Capture One Pro; a longtime favorite of professional retouchers that hadn’t really caught on with the masses.
