Lightweight fluid video head with flat base (5kg payload)
At this year’s NAB Manfrotto launched their new MVH500AH Video head. It’s a light weight fluid head with a wider and longer plate built to handle the latest HDSLRs and video cameras. The 500 is the successor to the 701 HDV and is the smallest head built around Manfrotto’s Bridging Technology.

We’ve been testing the IndiPro EVF for a couple of months for various different shoots. The company touts their new EVF as a more affordable solution for Indie videographers, news gatherers, and for those that need something portable. The specific version that we tested is marketed as being best for Canon DSLRs. However, during our tests we used it with the Sony NEX 5R in addition to the Canon 5D Mk II. And the results–we really can’t complain.

Around these parts, I’m known as the Kickstarter addict or at least it’s step one to admit it. Today we have a special review for you of a successful product that came from the crowdfunding forest of toys. CineSkates is that product and it is a part of the Cinetics system. The goal and purpose of CineSkates, in case you’re not familiar, is to give you smooth video pans in any direction.
I took a trip out to the Salton Sea and put the CineSkates system to the test. Let’s see how the scenes turn out in the review. [click to continue…]

There are news announcements and then there are news announcements. Some get us all excited, and some leave us indifferent. And then, there are news announcements. Today’s is one of the latter, and these are the ones that makes us go, “what the heck?!?” Apparently, a hitherto unknown company by the name of ‘LockCircle’ has decided that what filmmakers need is a remote control which they can use to annoy their cameramen with. Because their just-announced product is a series of lenses with a remote controllable aperture. Yup. And they come with a remote control that looks like a PocketWizard.

Remember when we last reported about the Digital Bolex Kickstarter project? That was almost a year ago. For the past year, it was pretty quiet about the project. However, recently, the team behind the digital 16mm 2k video camera have announced not only the camera’s final design, but also three dedicated lenses to go with it: a 10mm, an 18mm and a 38mm f4 lens.

Today Fotodiox has released a really fancy USB follow focus for Canon. Products like this make the Nikon fanboy inside me really jealous … Other follow focus systems have been available, but they were basic in the way that they just changed focus. The Aputure V-Control has the ability to not only control focus with its slick dial, but also change modes. Additionally, it offers total exposure control (shutter, ISO and aperture), four focus point presets in video mode, an LCD display for settings and total control via live view.
As I mentioned, other companies have made similar products–like the FC1 from okii–but this is in my opinion unique in the way that it offers more controls. Also, when comparing the price between the two, the FC1 comes in at $350 and the new Aputure V-Control will be selling for $180. The product is new, so therefore information is limited to a spec list. But if you want to read more about the new USB follow focus from Fotodiox, check the product out on their website here.
