tripod

I hate tripods—and I actually believe that they instead make for a great back scratcher when you need to get those hard to reach areas. Previously, I’ve only really used Gorillapods to place my wireless strobes in certain areas. Then Vanguard was kind enough to send me the Nivelo for review. So, did it change my mind?

Review: Benro Travel Angel A-1691TB0

by Mike Pouliot on March 26, 2011

Let’s face it, nobody likes to lug around a tripod. Yes, they provide stable shooting platforms but they also add extra weight and take up valuable space that not all photographers are willing to spare. You can opt for a compact, ultralight carbon fiber tripod, but that usually results in an ultralight wallet. The other option is buying an affordable, “traditional sized” tripod but then you add at least 8 lbs. to your load. First Impressions: Vanguard Alta Pro

by Nigel Paterson on March 23, 2011

The innovative design lets you grip, position, release.

The tripod is the first accessory I suggest keen amateurs purchase after they buy a camera: before a flash, before extra lenses, before bags. They not only allow long exposures, they are a big aid to composition, so if you want to make nice images, use a tripod. Vanguard has sent The Phoblographer an Alta Pro 263 AGH kit comprising the GH-100 pistol grip head and 263AT legs, and first impressions are great.

On a Window Ledge of a Conference room Camera Nikon D90 Exposure 10 Aperture f/16.0 Focal Length 50 mm ISO Speed 320

In photography, sometimes it is impossible to capture a blur-free photograph without a tripod. When you need a longer exposure to get a properly lit shot, or you want to have a big depth of field like f/16 –f/22, keeping your camera as still as possible is important. However, you cannot always carry a tripod. If you look at your environment, though, you can find a place to put your camera and keep it still. This was inspired by a conversation I had with Chris Gampat. He got a great shot and when I asked him how, he told me the he had used the environment as his tripod.
