Useful Photography Tip #6: Making Your Subjects Look Better
The most common question I get at the beginning of a shoot from non-professional models, especially females is “Can you make me look skinnier/prettier/younger?” They’re generally saying it in jest and are thus surprised when I answer in all seriousness “Yes, I can. It will still be you, just the best you.” How do I do that without changing what the person actually looks like? Well here are a few tricks to do just that.
Review: Lowepro 350AW DSLR Video Pack
Lowepro introduced their new line of backpacks geared toward the DSLR Video shooter in the form of the DSLR video fastpack 150 AW, 250 AW, and 350 AW. Now, still photographers, don’t let the first sentence deter you. There’s only probably one major difference that I can see why this is a “video-centric” bag vs a traditional photography bag. I shoot some video with my Canon 5D Mark II, but also wanted to try this for my still photography equipment so when they asked me to review a 350 AW, I jumped at the opportunity.
Review: Manfrotto 701 HDV
More and more photographers are starting to use their cameras to record video. Before I started shooting video I was like most photographers and bought a normal ball head for my tripod. A ball head works great for still photography as it allows for quick and easy adjustments, but I soon realized that it doesn’t work well for video. The ball head was harder to get level and keep level while panning. As I started recording more videos I looked on the Internet for good video heads that would fit on my tripod. I have a Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod so I started looking at what Manfrotto had to offer.

You’ve heard the bad excuses for not wanting to pay a photographer, but the sad thing is that many aspiring photographers still get caught in traps when they’re first starting out. When you get caught in said traps, it can be tough to get out of them. Unfortunately, they can sometimes lead you into bankruptcy, heavy debt, unemployment, or bad legal issues. As a guy that is a former professional, I’ve seen and experienced much of it.
These are the traps that many get caught in.
A Photographer's Wishes for the iPad 2
With rumors of a new Apple iPadstarting to gain traction on the interwebs, it was thrown out to me by Phoblographer’s Grand Poobah Gampat that I, as the resident iPad
lover, should write about what a photographer wants from the next iteration of the iPad.
