Canon 7D Shot SXSW Award Winning Tiny Furniture, In Theatres 11/12/2010
Want to see just how good the Canon 7Dis for cinematography? This Friday, an SXSW award winning film, “Tiny Furniture” is coming to theaters. According to the Tiny Furniture Press Kit (PDF download), the entire film was shot using the Canon 7D—demonstrating the fact that the HDSLR is very capable of shooting cinema quality video. The movie is about 22-year old Auro who moves back home into her mother’s TriBeCa loft. Almost everything that could go wrong has gone wrong in her life and it begins to go awry in some typically hipster ways as she tries to find herself. Jody Lee Lipes is the DP—who has worked on The Whitest Kids U’Know, Man vs Wild, My First Kiss by 3OH!3, and lots more. You can find out where it is screening here.
I’ve used the 7D on a podcast, for a wedding, for concerts, for portraits, and we’ve done a full review on it. If you’re still not convinced, take a look at how it did against other Canon cameras, the D300s, and the Pentax K-5. Lastly, we tested a Zeiss compact prime meant for cinematography on it.
On a personal note, I wonder what lenses they used.

When I was right out of college, I had an extremely brief tenure with an agency as a celebrity photographer. One of my gigs was shooting Julia Roberts on the set of Eat, Pray Love which is now in theaters. The photos in this story were shot a year ago in Carrol Gardens in Brooklyn, New York where part of the movie was filmed. Though not my worst gig, it was a huge learning experience and began to solidify my exit from celebrity photography.
Shooting Sarah Jessica Parker on the Set of Sex and the City 2
With the imminent release of Sex and the City 2 on May 27th, I’d thought I’d share my experience of photographing Sarah Jessica Parker on the set of the movie while it was filming last summer. Those of you that are fans of the series and the movies may be delighted to know that Sarah is actually a very pleasant, sweet and nice person. In fact, she was one of my few positive experiences when photographing female celebrities back when I was a celebrity photographer.
