I’m the new guy here at The Phoblographer, so it’s time I inaugurate myself by explaining exactly what I carry with me when I go out shooting.

I’ve been taking pictures since I was a kid, but only recently have I taken the time to evaluate my gear and shape my camera bag around exactly the type of photographs I’m taking. Having moved to Los Angeles recently, street photography seemed like an obvious transition for me. I fell in love with it, and it is now my primary style of shooting. I’ve now molded my gear around my needs, and while very simple, it handles just about anything I can throw at it. Let’s take a look!

At Photo Plus Expo 2011, we got our first hands on experience with the newly announced Fuji X10. Marketed to the world as a point and shoot with phenomenal image quality due to a larger sensor while maintaining stunning good looks the on the outside, the Fujifilm X100 gives design cues to the Fujifilm X10, but targeted at a different price point.

On the second night of Photo Plus, I attended a party (one of many) where after a couple of rounds, I tried out the X10 with a flash mounted on it. Shooting all JPEGs and with the only intention being to have fun, did the Fujifilm X10 surprise me?

We’ve reviewed the Leica M9-P (M9P or M-9P), Olympus EP3 (E-P3 or EP-3) and the Fuji X100 (Fujifilm X100) and put them through their paces. So the time has come to test the Fuji X100′s high ISO settings, neutral density filter and to explore the metering and white balance settings a bit more. We’ve already done some exhaustive testing. Not long ago, I tested it for product photography using and the light from my Visisble Dust SensorLoupe, I’ve tested the film modes, took the Fuji X100 with me to a small celebration for Cinco De Mayo with co-workers, and expolored a slew of problems: especially the metering. The day before that, I compared it to the Olympus EP-2 and was just getting a feel for it.

Improvisation—it’s what every photographer needs to do at times in order to achieve the photo they want. In my case, I did this with lighting. Last night, I stayed in (due to allergies) and tried to photograph a lens for a friend of mine since he wants to sell it. Now here’s the problem: my 7D, 5D Mk II, flashes and lenses are in the hands of good friends helping them to shoot weddings. My EP-2 is with another friend being tested for long exposure photography. So that left me with the Fuji X100, the flash on the camera, and the light from my Visisble Dust SensorLoupe.

Last night I took the Fuji X100 with me to a small celebration for Cinco De Mayo with co-workers and today I used it for a bit of street photography. Yesterday, I stated that the camera had a slew of problems: especially the metering. The day before that, I compared it to the Olympus EP-2 and was just getting a feel for it. Today, I’m going to address some of the problems a bit more.
