Canon 5D Mk II Outdoes iPhone 4 on Flickr (For a Little While at Least)
According to Flickr’s latest camera usage stats, the Canon 5D Mk II has just dethroned the iPhone 4 as the most popular camera with Flickr users. Well, it did.
While we’re not surprised about the fact that the 5D2 is a popular camera per se, we are surprised to learn that it sees more use with Flickr users than the ever-ready take-anywhere iPhone. Read more after the jump.
Op/Ed: On sharing photos: Flickr, Pure Photo and 500px
When I got into photography, the first thing I learned was that it is nice to share my images. As photographers, there is one thing we like to do: have our images seen by audiences big or small and getting feedback. The internet offers various opportunities to share images. We have discussed sharing images on Flickr before, but things have evolved. Flickr is not the only image-sharing site on the web. Two sites that have recently come in to view for me are 500px and Pure Photo. I have accounts on both of these sites, and this is what I think.
Apple Aperture 3 : Learning the Interface
Apple’s Aperture 3 is the latest release of the software designed to help photographer’s manage, and edit their images. It’s direct competitor is Adobe’s Lightroom 3. Adobe’s Lightroom 3 runs on both PC and Mac platforms while Aperture is just made for Mac. If you have a Mac I would try both Lightroom and Aperture so that you can decide which works best for you.
On Sharing Photos on Flickr
Flickr is a great place to share your photography. We previously had a posting on how to get more page views on Flickr, but I wanted to go into the social media side of things. I am not a fan of Facebook so Flickr is my site of choice for sharing my photography. It’s very difficult for me to imagine not sharing my photography. There is a clear difference between photography for profit and photography for sharing. Read the rest of this entry »
Where Is the Nikon 50mm F/1.2 II?
According to Nikon Rumors, a new 50mm F/1.8 may be coming soon. That’s cool: but what about something for more of the higher end and professional crowds? Where is their update to the 50mm F/1.2?
When I was in a meeting with some Nikon reps previously, they were very proud that their finally completed their trio of F/1.4 lenses with the 50mm, 35mm and 85mm. But in the back of my head I couldn’t help but think, “Hmmmm, so where are you F/1.2 lenses, huh? Canon has theirs.”
If you head over to Flickr and check out this user’s profile, you’ll see that a lot of the photos were shot with the Nikon 50mm F/1.2 lens. There is even a really large Flickr group dedicated to this lens. But it still begs the question: where is the new one? Will it take longer with the earthquake that happened?
Let us know your thoughts: would you buy a new 50mm F/1.2? If not, what lens would you buy?
Weekly Shooting Challenge: The Rule of Thirds
Each week, the staff of The Phoblographer will be issuing you new challenges. Since we are a resource of tips and techniques, we decided that it is now time to put your photographic brains to use. This week, we are challenging you to go out there and shoot photos utilizing the Rule of Thirds in your composition to create more visually interesting images. We’d ask that you use our guide to help you.
We’ll also ask you to add those images to our Flickr Group with the tag, “The-Phoblographer-Rule-of-Thirds” Here are some tips on how to get the best out of Flickr while you’re at it. In one week, we will have a posting featuring a round up of these photos. When that challenge ends, we’ll start a new one and the process will continue.
