Using the Olympus EP-2 for Street Photography by Eric Kim
Recently the generous folks over at Olympus camera sent me an Olympus EP-2 to test out for street photography. As you guys may know, Micro 4/3rds are quite the rage as of late, with their ability to have a small form factor while taking high-quality images that almost rival that of a DSLR. I remember when the original Olympus EP-1 came out, there was the biggest ruckus on the web. Although I never was able to shoot with one, it seemed like a very ideal camera for street photography. With a sexy old-school look that won’t make people stop in their tracks when shooting street photography, I hoped it performed as well as it looked. Using the Ricoh GRIII For Street Photography: A Review by Eric Kim
When you are shooting street photography, it is hugely important to have a small and inconspicuous camera which prevents you from†sticking†out like a sore thumb. I didn’t always know that. When I first started shooting street photography, I used a Canon 5D DSLR, which is quite large and intimidating. I found out it was hard to stay low-key when I was in the streets, as it was large, bulky, and had a loud shutter sound. Recently I was able to get my hands on a Ricoh GRIII digital, which is a truly incredible camera. I had heard about the camera about a year back, and noticed that everybody who used the camera only had good things to say about it. If anything, it has its own little cult following. I was quite curious back then, but now I know. Without spoiling anything, it is truly the best compact camera for street photography, and everybody who is serious about shooting in the streets should have one. There is often a debate back and forth about which cameras are best for Street Photography, and Eric Kim does a very good job of trying to discern through it all for people. Being a gear and tips oriented blog, we try to help readers make better decisions on which cameras are best for certain situations. In truth, it is all up to the photographer, and I agree with Eric that any camera can do the job. However, I personally believe that smaller cameras do it best. Here’s why:
