Review: Canon 8-15mm f4 L Fisheye Lens

by Chris Gampat on November 24, 2011

See that piece of glass in the photo up above? That is one of the most highly talked about Canon L lenses right now. Indeed, the Canon 8-15mm f4 L fisheye zoom lens is one of the company’s latest additions and also one of the lenses that cannot stay on shelves or warehouses. Even people that don’t like fisheye lenses are amazed by this portable eye of a fish.

But is it worth the hype, money and your time?

Review: Carl Zeiss 25mm f2 for Canon EF

by Chris Gampat on November 21, 2011

At Photo Plus 2011, we had hands on time with the Carl Zeiss 25mm f2 lens. During that time, we were very impressed with the lens’s performance despite having it for such a short period of time. When it arrived at my doorstep, I was very excited to try it. Indeed, it has been my first Zeiss review as Mike has typically been the site’s specialist on these lenses.

So can the Zeiss 25mm f2 live up to the legendary camera manufacturer’s name as well as stand up to some of Canon’s best glass?

After hours of internet research, I found that nobody has created an adapter for the lens to Canon EOS mount. So I took it to a machinist and had the lens custom adapted to my 5D Mk II.

Long Term Review: Canon 50mm f1.4 Lens

by Chris Gampat on October 2, 2011

We’ve reviewed the Sigma version of this lens, and today we bring you a long term review of the Canon version: a lens that many say cannot touch the Sigma in terms of overall quality. I’ve been testing this lens on both the Canon 5D Mk II and 7D, and though it has had its quirks, it is still a lens worth considering in your lineup of glass. But is it really the right lens for you?
