Field Review: Canon 1D Mk IV (Day 7)
Canon 1D Mk IV users will surely be using their cameras to shoot professional sports like baseball. I went to Central Park the other day to shoot a game in progress. The autofocus did not disappoint at all with this camera, nor did the high ISO performance. Though sports isn’t something I usually shoot and it requires paying careful attention to all the details, the tests I did showed that the 1D Mk IV was able to keep up with faster action the way that the Nikon D3s was able to.

Quack quack! One of the subjects that Canon 1D Mk IV users will be shooting is wildlife. What better subject to shoot than a cute widdle duckling running across a pond in Central Park? So how did it do to track the little guy?

Field Review: Canon 1D Mk IV (Day 5)
Wedding photographers that use Canon have a huge interest in the Canon 1D Mk IV. Technicalities that are of interest to this group is above all else High ISO performance. Go to any forum and read about most wedding photographers and how often they try to avoid the higher ISO settings on their cameras. To show you what the images look like at each ISO setting here are all the images on display for you one right after another. All images were taken at St. Patrick’s Cathedral to simulate a church setting. To take these images, the camera was set in Aperture priority where I rested on one of the pews (after genuflecting towards the alter and blessing myself with holy water of course, I’m a catholic school boy) and just adjusted the ISO setting while shooting the images.
Field Review: Canon 1D Mk IV (Day 4)
So what would a portrait photographer think of the 1D Mk IV? That’s what I wanted to find out at the NYC Portrait Photographer’s Meetup. Katie Jane Parker and Alethea Cheng Fitzpatrick Photography were in attendance, the former being the hostess. I passed the camera and accessories back and forth amongst them as we talked about it, clients and the business.

Field Review: Canon 1D Mk IV (Day 3)
The Canon EOS 1D Mark IV‘s autofocus and ergonomics were tested in a quick and dirty street portrait session around midtown in NYC. In a quick summary, the camera isn’t perfect ergonomically or in use of focus. Image-wise, it’s really, really quite good in great lighting.
