Nikon’s new flagship mirrorless camera, the Nikon 1 V3, is here. The compact system camera features an 18.4-MP image sensor that is paired with Nikon’s new EXPEED 4A image processor—essentially a smaller version of the EXPEED 4 engine inside the D3300 and D4s.
Externally the Nikon 1 V3 is a smaller beast compared to the 1 V2. The integrated electronic viewfinder has been moved off as an optional DF-N1000 EVF unit. Meanwhile, the same thing has been done with the grip, which is also an optional unit labeled the GR-N1010. Without the extra bits the Nikon 1 V3 is a much smaller package that more closely resembles the 1 AW1 and the patent designs we saw earlier.
Despite the smaller body Nikon 1 V3 is just as much a sports and action camera as its predecessor. Now the 1 V3 can take 20 fps in full resolution. When switched to a fixed focus the camera can increase its burst rate to a ludicrous 60 fps. To help the Nikon 1 V3 stay on point with all the action it’s equipped with a Hybrid AF System, incorporating 171 contrast detection AF points with 105 phase detection AF points to lock onto subjects.
In video mode, Nikon’s new mirrorless camera can capture 1080p movies at 60 fps. Alternatively, the camera can turn a shorter clip of action into a 120 fps slow-motion sequence. The Nikon 1 V3 will ship kitted with the 1 Nikkor VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-zoom lens later this year for $1196.95. Hit past the break to seem more images of the Nikon 1 V3 plus two new lenses, the 1 Nikkor VR 10-30mm f3.5-5.6 PD and 70-300 f4.5-5.6 telephoto lens.
