If you’ve been really into lighting and studio setups, you’ll know that PocketWizard, Bowens, and Sekonic are top names in that industry. And for what it’s worth, the three companies are making a pledge to work even closer together. The three members of the MAC Group recently announced that they’ll be trying to incorporate better integration with one another’s products. Previously, this relationship was being built with Profoto–and much integration is still there. However, Bowens is a brand that is sold much more widespread for their affordability and for being the industry standard for light modifier mounts.
What this could mean is something along the lines of firmware for PocketWizard and Sekonic products, but what is also means is either totally new products in the pipeline for both companies. Of course, Bowens should be receiving a total revamp on theirs–which we find to be a tad archaic especially in their radios.
TTL transmission with Canon and Nikon cameras with Bowens lights, anyone? If the trio can do this, then it can change the wedding industry even more than Profoto has already done so. And when it comes to student discounts, very affordable gear may be easily had in packages come school season.
