Mom is the person who brought you into the world. Our mothers have been there to protect us, love us, provide for us, and help us out in many different ways that we can’t count on two fingers. We owe them all a little something–and you should put some thought into it. This isn’t your typical list: the items presented here are carefully curated for the photographer mom or one with a taste for the artistic things in life.
If you’re reading this, you’re bound to find a gift for one of the most important women in your life.
ONA Brooklyn Camera Bag
ONA’s bags are exceptionally well designed usually with either leather or canvas. Plus, they’re usually uber fashionable. The Brooklyn is a bag created especially for women. It mimics the look of a daily handbag–which means that Mom won’t be wearing the fact that she is a photographer on her sleeve. However, once you pop the top open, you’ll discover loads of space for accessories, lenses, and a DSLR.
Apple iPad Mini
I personally purchased the iPad Mini back when it was first announced and of any demographic that I’ve seen picking it up the most, it has been the moms. I convinced Alex, the Editor in Chief of Resource Magazine, to get one. The iPad Mini’s appeal comes from the fact that its size factor reminds of us something that many of us held closely to our hearts–paperback books. Plus, it fits in a tote or even a Peacoat jacket with no issues at all.
Anyone that’s bought one couldn’t be any happier with theirs.
If you’re looking for a compact camera with a large sensor, the Fujifilm XF1 is perhaps one of the best deals that you can spring for. First off, Fujifilm’s sensors render images to look like any of their old film stocks–such as Astia or Provia. But besides the image quality, Mom will like the simple controls, the nice reto/vintage feel, and the compact camera body that can be carried anywhere. Additionally, for the price you’re getting a pretty big sensor and a fairly powerful zoom range.
Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 Optic
Everyone loves the tilt-shift effect when they’re looking for fun and creative ideas. And when you need to do it on a budget, we strong recommend the offerings from Lensbaby. The new Sweet 35 has loads of aperture blades for smooth bokeh, exceptional sharpness, and is also just a super cool and super fun item to experiment with on your camera.
The Nifty 50
This is the lens that everyone springs before because of just how good it tends to be at an affordable price point. Many people either try to go for a 50mm equivalent field of view or they tend to purchase a 50mm lens and put it on their camera no matter what the field of view may be. If you’re looking for the best price points though with all the image quality to satisfy Mom for years, then go for a nifty 50. They’re small, sharp, and extremely affordable.
Fujifilm Instax Mini 8
Instant film is loads and loads of fun to play with and they make the party even better. Targeted toward the fun Mom, she’ll greatly appreciate getting business card sized prints of those special moments. The Instax Mini 8 has special controls around the lens that mimic the feel of an aperture ring. Plus the camera collapses down to a more compact size for easier storage.
Apple touts the iPhone as the world’s most popular camera. But it is also an extremely popular phone. For the photographer, she’ll appreciate using apps like Instagram and more. Further, she’ll appreciate all of the cool accessories that can be used with the iPhone to make the camera better or more useful. We recommend this phone for the more tech savvy Mom–or the one that leans more towards the hipper side of life.
Sony NEX 3N
The camera that we awarded the Editor’s Choice for Entry Level Mirrorless Camera is an obvious candidate for the best gifts you can get Mom this year. If your Mom is stepping up to the interchangeable lens camera world, the NEX 3N is an excellent choice because of the ergonomic design. It is solid, beautiful, and incorporates a zoom rocker switch on the top of the camera that will be more familiar with lots of Moms that used point and shoots before.
Of any gift on this list, this is our top choice.
