At this year’s NAB Manfrotto launched their new MVH500AH Video head. It’s a light weight fluid head with a wider and longer plate built to handle the latest HDSLRs and video cameras. The 500 is the successor to the 701 HDV and is the smallest head built around Manfrotto’s Bridging Technology.
The 500 has improved balance and support and is built to be easy and safe to use. Manfrotto made the 500 faster to set up with a new side lock lever, which allows the camera and sliding QR plate to click quickly into the head from above. There’s only one locking control to release. It’s also set to a fixed counter balance, which weighs 5lbs. With the locking power on the tilt axis, it will remain stable with 11lbs of gear.
The 500 is available as a stand-alone head, in either flat-based or 60mm half-ball versions, in a kit with twin aluminum leg tripod or single carbon fiber tubes tripod. The combination between the 500 head with the patented fluid monopod is also available. The head’s comfortable pan bar can be switched between left and right sides depending on personal preference.
