The contest lasts one week and then it takes a week to judge it. Seems legit. Ok, maybe not. Just pick one you jerks.

      • ChrisGampat

There are three judges trying to figure out who wins and a ton of entries.
        Relax.

You know, telling us to relax isn’t really the friendliest way to communicate with us. The page here says: “The contest ends on February 14, 2013; winners will be announced shortly after that.” I don’t think that its unreasonable for us to think that it would have taken less than a full week.

And I don’t think telling us to “relax,” is respectful of your readers at all. There isn’t even the hint of an apologetic note or explanation in your responses. You have hundreds of people that have been waiting patiently. Dragging this out gets you more and more views and its really beginning to seem like you are milking this contest for “refreshes”. I told myself that couldn’t be the case…but your lack of respect toward the eager reader and lack of updates really tell a different story.

This page has been viewed over a hundred times today and over 7000 times total. You know you have an eager readership. You should be excited and thankful so many people want to be a part of this.

And as a reader for a long time, when have we ever let anyone down?

Our site was down for nearly four hours today. We’ve been going through a ton of changes as of recent. We are constantly bombarded with news, new vendor inquiries, advertising, content development, strategizing, editing and revising tips and tutorials, growth, and more.

Additionally, when contests are judged, it needs to be done between two companies. In this case it is us and Rokinon. We are still working on this but the anxiousness and a reply like yours will not quicken the pace.

When I used to work at B&H Photo, we got the same thing every day when the D800 came out. “Oh when is mine coming?! When is mine coming?!” And you know what, it came when we got the shipments. In a case like this, we will announce the decision when we’ve made it. We have a ton of submissions to go through and there are two Phoblographer Editors and One Marketing Director for Rokinon doing this on top of all of our other duties.

If you really think that this is a pageviews game then I need to tell you that you are absolutely wrong. Those numbers are extremely minimal in the grand scheme of this site’s traffic.

Now once again, I am going to ask you to please be patient while we work or else I will close the comments section.

You’re going to close the comments session because of 4 people who are mildly critical of the handling of this contest? You actually haven’t asked for our patience once, in contrast to your last sentence.

The only 2 bits of communication you’ve given us was: “relax.” I think your readers have been very patient. We’re just wondering if we should keep checking in… because of the vagueness of the contest rules. Next time you may want to just say: “Sorry guys, having a hard time picking a winner! We’ll pick a winner soon.” Having a hard date would probably be a better idea for future contests. And acting so curt and disrespectful to people who support your site doesn’t seem like a good idea.

I’m actually trying to help you. I’m not really all that concerned with winning a $300 lens. But the way you are handling this is making me, and I’m sure many others, second guess whether or not this is the type of blog we’d like to frequent. I know I’m not alone.

              • tashaleigh

I don’t feel the way you do…I’m happy to be patient! You do not have to be a jerk about it…it’s a contest with over 600 pictures and so many different variables. Sorry for this poor guy and his cynicism…don’t lump me into this category of impatient people! Can’t wait to see who wins! No matter how long it takes :)

Did you guys delete my last comment?

              • ChrisGampat

Nothing was deleted, but please stop because you’re not making this go any faster.

Have to agree with Gampat, here, Marc. Relax a little. it’s a contest for a FREE lens. They didn’t have to do it, in the first place. Can you really complain that you’re not getting something for free fast enough? It’s ok…they’ll get to it. Go shoot, have a little fun away from the glow of your computer screen.

            • ChrisGampat

Our decision should be finalized tomorrow. To judge this contest required three editors from Phoblographer and the Marketing Director of Rokinon.
The problem? Just like in many workplaces, when too many chefs are at a pot it can become problematic to get things totally accomplished. On top of this, we’ve got a ton of submissions to go through on top of our responsibilities.

              You’ll hear from us soon.
