Lots of us here at the Phoblographer are fans of the Walking Dead, as are many of you, and we’re totally stoked about the new episode coming on AMC on February 10th. In its honor, we scoured the web for memorable zombie photography projects that the creative community has done. Here are five that we’re almost ready to die for.
Amanda Rynda’s Zombie Engagement Session
This project started out very romantic with a very dapper couple having a picnic in a beautiful field. Then, a zombie came, and the couple needed to defend themselves. Being the typical photojournalist and staying out of the way to just document the happenings, Amanda successfully captured the power of a couple’s love as they utterly destroyed this zombie.
This engagement session went viral–probably more for the fact that it proved the existence of zombies, but it was also pretty kick ass.
Gobo Studios’ Zombie Wedding and Corpse Bride Project
Gobo Studio has some really jaw dropping to the ground and off the skull work. Not only is there Steampunk, but there is also Zombie wedding photography and Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride shoots. The engagement session for Mark and Tiari tells the story of how a couple can keep running away from zombies and fight until the bitter end.
Zombie in Love by Vanessa Salas Moreno
We know, there are quite a bit of lovey dovey zombie projects out there and not enough good ones involving these creatures enjoying us like we enjoy bacon. But this project from Vanessa Salas Moreno completely ate at our hearts. To add some background to the project, she also posted a Youtube video showing off how the makeup was done for this sad, forever alone fellow. But the project overall comprises of four photos that really show off not only an otherworldly fine art aesthetic, but a classy, cool, almost Misfits feel as well.
Left 5 Dead by Night Zero
Though we’re not usually fans of HDR portraits, the ones from Night Zero to promote a Left 4 Dead inspired project of theirs went viral before, and also generally looked pretty darn true to life. The series follows Bill, Francis, Zoey, and Louis as they encounter the witch, hunter, and some random dude as well. If you’re a fan of the game and spent hours telling the noob players to stick together, then this project will strike at you like a wandering witch.

Rick Genest’s (AKA Zombie Boy) Photoshoot for Vogue Hommes Japan
Rick Genest is living proof that people should fully embrace who they are. We’d known about him for a while before his unique looks started to get picked up by the mainstream. But if you watch the below video from the Avant Garde Diaries, you’ll learn that Rick has quite the story behind him involving a brain tumor and wanting to totally embrace his punk rock way of life. Growing up as a big fan of the Misfits, I can totally see Rick’s influences.
However, we feel that Rick’s best photo shoot was done by Vogue Hommes Japan, where they not only embraced his more fashionable side, but also worked with his identity. Though this might not count as a zombie photography project, the fact that Rick embraces his zombie like looks that he has given himself combined with his backstory make this photo shoot a total winner in our books.

AMC has a link to a couple photos of their zombies. But if you keep scrolling through, you’ll see things like this transformation photo and a behind the scenes look at how someone turns into a zombie plus a couple of other closeups.
