Nikon, Zeiss, Sigma, Sony and Samyang Dominate DXO Mark’s Top Lens List

Today is a sad day for Canon. When I first started out in photography, the saying used to go that one would buy into Canon for their lenses and Nikon for their camera bodies. That’s not true anymore according to DXOMark’s latest lens tests. News came the other day that Nikon was dominating, and they still continue with their 85mm lenses. However, look at the rest of the list: it’s all Zeiss, Samyang (which is the same as Rokinon), Sony and Sigma. I recently switched my entire lens lineup for to Sigma for this very reason. Sure, if you keep going down the list, you’ll see a Canon lens or two, but that company used to be much better at lens making. It’s time that they start stepping up it seems. Maybe if the company comes out with a new high megapixel camera, they’ll start to edge out over Nikon.

I thought Canon had a few more lenses.

I thought it was always ‘canon for bodies, nikon for lenses :)

I don’t think it’s because Canon don’t make good glass, it’s more of Canon don’t make a good body to really showcase the glass.

This is just stupid. I do have a Canon 85 mm/1.2 II lens and have used before Nikon 85mm mm/1.4 lens. The Canon lens is the best lens I have ever used. Publishing “test” results without understanding simple things like sample distribution and most of all printing a single number as a measure of optical properties of a complex optical system consisting of many lenses and complex electromechanical mechanism is for technically enthusiastic but scientifically and artistically retarded. All this coming from a Ph.D. In physics who is also an advanced photographer.
There is a reason adobe is adobe and DXO is DXO.

Your run-on sentences made absolutely no sense and I’m an MD ;)

right Adobe is the one most of people use and put their faith into , DXO?
who cares the BS testing lenses , that siad I trust their sensor testing.

How will a higher megapixel camera improve their lenses?

If you click on the optical metric scores, Canon take no.1, and 2 positions. Were Leica lens excluded from the tests?

Don’t agree – over 32 years I’ve used Nikon and Canon (both budget range) SLR’s and lens. Along with personal experience and lens tests Nikon produce a better budget lens than Canon with the more expensive glass being equal. I hate plastic but Nikon also seem to use a better quality of plastic in their budget DSLR camera’s. Situation is completely different with respect to compact camera’s – Canon’s are good but Nikon’s are dire

It’s just another perspective view of lens. The art depends 50% on what you can purchase, and other 50% on yourself :D
