The successors to Fujifilm’s X10 and X100 has been running through the rumor mill for quite some time now, but at last, Fujifilm has officially released the X20 and X100s cameras at CES 2013. Touting an impressive “World’s Fastest AF” claim, Fujifilm has set their mirrorless shooters at quite the high standard right out the gate.

The most anticipated and perhaps needed update to these shooters is an improved AF focusing system that Fujifilm is boasting as the fastest in the world. At .6 seconds on the X20 and .08 seconds on the X100s, the numbers are impressive. On top of the AF, Fujifilm is also catering to manual shooters with Focus Peak Highlights which show just what parts of your image is in focus to ensure accuracy. On top of that, Fujifilm has included a new feature called the Digital Split Image display that actually produces images side by side on your viewfinder to help with manual focusing. Fujifilm recommends this feature when shooting wide open or at subjects at close range.
Digging into the innards of these cameras, we find a 16.3 MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor with a EXR Processor II which Fujifilm claims to be able to produce images that can go head to head with full-frame sensor cameras. In the X20 is a 12MP 2/3 inch X-Trans CMOS II sensor with a EXR Processor II as well. Both of these cameras are capable of 60fps Full HD video.
If the AF improvement is as “world’s fastest” as Fujifilm claims, the X100s takes away what held back the X100 and also keeps the enjoyable qualities that we liked so much about the X100 in our review.
