Despite all of the camera lust over the higher end DSLRs, Amazon’s Top Selling DSLRs list tells us that indeed its the lower level entry bodies that move much more. And to boot, it’s not necessarily the newer ones. Check out what’s been doing well over the holidays.

In the top 10 list, there are only two full frame camera bodies: the 5D Mk II and the D600. Everything else is a cropped sensor camera body. Interesting, huh?

Not surprising. Not many are going to fork over $2500 for a camera. I would say most have like $600.They’ll just look for the cheapest canon/nikon with a lens and hit buy. Consumers these days have no clue what they are doing.

I agree. Most consumers do not need a DSLR. I know so many people who have one and leave it on “auto”.

Saying consumers have no clue is arrogant. There are a hundred different reasons why one would buy better than a ‘point and shoot’ but not want to spend thousands on a body only to spend more in lenses. You’re situation is completely different than the next guy’s situation, neither is better it’s just different.

The fact that the canon t3 is the number 1 dslr camera proves my point. With a little research they could have found out that the t2i is Better at absolutely everything for the same price. I don’t have anything against cheap dslr. Just the cannon t3

Or just look the score of the t3 sensor. It is just 4 points under the great 7D (according to dxomark labs)

    • SpoorthyVemula

LOL the 7d doesnt have a good sensor compared to all the other modern cameras. K-5 and D7k score much higher.

The best selling book of all time is the Bible and the best selling song of all time is candle in the wind. Popular doesn’t necessarily mean good. ;)

The “camera lust” comes from camera review sites/blogs and other photographers. Most consumers are not that into camera gear. They just want to take pictures of their kids and think they need a DSLR to do it. But they don’t need or want a pro-level camera, so they’ll just buy the entry level model. So, no, not really interesting or surprising. When you blog about photography for other photographers, it’s easy to get trapped in a bubble. Outside the bubble are people who record vertical videos on their phones, Instagram mundane things and wouldn’t know the difference between full frame and a picture frame.

Reading these comments is exactly why I don’t hang out with other photographers. Bunch of arrogant know it alls. Each person has different camera needs. In my experience (which admittedly, isn’t VAST), the body is relatively a minor concern. The lens is where it’s at.
Regardless, if a soccer mom wants a dslr, let her have one, without the looking down ones nose at it. You take your photo, and let them take theirs. Keep your arrogant, condescending comments to yourselves.

The Canon EOS Rebel T3 is a good camera,it’s not that good when compared to full frame and stuff, ISO performance is not the best, but for it’s price, and being compatible with all EF and EF-S lens, i’ve got one myself, the T3 was the DSLR that i could afford at the time, and i’m not disappointed with it, it’s an entry level camera, but not a bad entry level camera, so c’mon, let’s stop bashing on entry level APS-C/DX DSLRs?
