Just as Sony announced a few lenses for E-mount to even it out a bit with Micro 4/3rds Olympus comes out with four new lenses. The Olympus OM-D has been very popular amongst our staff and we even had one staffer sell it all for it. The new lenses include a black version of their 12mm f2, 17mm f1.8, 60mm f2.8 MC and the odd but awesome 15mm f8 ultra-pancake.
The tiny lens above packs a glass lens with 3 elements and can do closeups up to 30cm. The 9mm thin lens cap can also be used for a body cap if needed. The lens is a fixed f8 lens so expect to use this only on fun day trips on only on a tripod at night, I know the Om-D 5 axis stabilization is good but its not that good!
Here is what the new black version of the 12mm f2 lens will look like and it will retail for $1,099.
Soon to join the Olympus 17mm f2.8 is a newly announced 17mm f1.8 lens. This lens doesn’t appear to be as much as a pancake as its older brother but its still quite small. This lens will have a metal exterior and the snapshot focus function just like the 12mm f2.
The final lens being announced by Olympus is the new 60mm f2.8 MC lens. This is a macro lens that will be able to focus up to 19cm from its subject. The lens will be packed with 13 elements in 10 groups and these will include an ED lens, 2 HR lenses and a E-HR lens. This lens will have a 7 blade aperture with a maximum f-stop of f22.
All lenses should be available soon except the 17mm f1.8 in which its development was just announced. No specific dates and prices have been released at this time of the news release. This lens will ship soon and will retail for $499.
