Carl Zeiss Announces The Apo Sonnar T* 135mm F2 Lens

by Peter Walkowiak on 09/07/2012

As the news from various companies pour in here is a new lens from the legendary people from Carl Zeiss. The 135mm f2 lens is a classic lens for greater subject isolation and it is available for Nikon and Canon. The lens will come with all of the latest technology from their floating elements design as well as anti-reflective coating but the lens will only be manual focus.

Both the Nikon and Canon versions will come with electronic contacts which will transfer aperture information and focus aid for the Nikon. The lens features a close up ratio of 1:4 so don’t expect to do any macro shooting with it. The lens will retail for $2,000 and will begin shipping December of this year.

“The lens features a close up ratio of 1:4 so don’t expect to do any macro shooting with it.”
It’s a bit strange to say it this way. 1. No one expected to do macro with the bare lens. 2. The close up ratio is better than its 135mm competitors. 3. A fine close up lens such as the Canon 500D will enable to reach about the same magnification as the 100mm Makro-Planar. This may appeal to some photographers.
