Camalapse, The Most Mobile Timelapse Device

by Peter Walkowiak on 08/21/2012

I recently bought the Radian from Kickstarter and while browsing Photojojo I found something similar for a smaller camera or phone. The Camalapse is a device that is made for smaller point and shoot cameras as well as mobile phones. Smartphones are loaded with great timelapse apps so there’s no need for complicated electronics inside of the Camalapse.

This little guy can do 90° degrees in 15 minutes and a full 360° spin in a hour, this is all pretty impressive considering that it doesn’t need batteries. The device offers a 1/4″ mount on both sides for a standard tripod and some kind of smartphone holder like the Glif.

Unlike the $125 that I spent on my Radian this little guy will run you $25 from Photojojo. The price shocked me and was the sole reason why I wanted to promote it. I hope some of you find it handy!

Or one can use a kitchen timer, Ordning, from Ikea for 5€. :)

I used it with a gopro cam and it disappointed; plastic thread and jerky unstable rotation; no use in wet weather; indeed you can better use your phantasy with a kitchen timer but beware of the ringing bell at the spot.

Thanks for the heads up! I thought I spied a plastic tripod mount… why would you do that!

  • Bryan

Ya – but will it hold a dslr like the Canon T4i with the 40mm pancake? If not, is it really useable?

“The Camalapse is a device that is made for smaller point and shoot cameras as well as mobile phones.”

      Did you read the article?

      • Bryan

Why, yes I did. Thanks for asking. My point is the price really shouldn’t shock you when this is design only for an iPhone and not a dslr like the Radian. You can’t really compare the two.

    Nice find! Thanks for sharing.

Am I the only only noticing that this is vaguely like an egg timer?
You know, vamped up for time lapse purpose.
the best would be to know if it rotates in both ways…

just read your comment, you are right. Most people just get cheap egg timers and use those, but eggtimers move too fast. Thats what’so cool about the Flow-Mow, cause it moves half as fast and very smooth, also works upside down with compact cameras which give you the option of changing its direction of rotation.

The Flow-Mow seems to be even cooler. This one moves half as fast as an egg timer mechanism and gives you a 360° pan in 120 min! available here: http://www.Flow-Mow.com
