Field Review: Impact LiteTrek Portable Strobe Kit (Day 2)
For my first shoot with the Impact LiteTrek Kit, I wanted to see just how small of a kit I could bring while still having the power of the studio with me. I decided to do the shoot in an abandoned factory and bike there with my model. I packed the Kit along with my Nikon D300 with my Tamron lens and Sekonic lightmeter, the Impact PowerSync Wireless, a set of 7″ grids and my most portable stand.
Lomography Introduces New LC-A Wide Camera
The Lomography company has been hinting and teasing their fans with glimpses and other tasty bits as of recent: and today they are happy to announce the new LC-A Wide camera. The company, who I’ve known for a while has been trying to shed their products being called, “toy cameras” have taken their highly beloved LC-A camera and essentially added a super wide angle 17mm F/4.5 Minigon lens to it. Lomography is also touting that users can, “go wild day or night with three different formats to choose from.” Indeed, users can choose from full-, square- or half-format. So that means that a 36 exposure roll of film can become a 72 roll: which sounds a bit like the old Olympus Pen cameras.
Press release, samples, and images are after the jump. I’m going to their party tonight in Midtown, NYC and will hopefully get some fondling time with the new camera.
On a personal note though, F/4.5 isn’t exactly my aperture of choice if I’m shooting at night.
The camera is available today for $389, while the instant back add-on for the camera will be $24.90. You can also read more on their microsite.

How the Fuji X100 Retaught Me Street Photography
Part of my methods of testing cameras here at The Phoblographer is by using them for street photography. While I agree with Eric Kim that it’s the photographer that creates the images, I believe that the camera is the tool that we use to do it. With that said, you wouldn’t use a wrench when you need a screwdriver. Upon using the Fuji X100, I believe that the camera retaught me how to do street photography.

Review: The Lowepro CompuDay 250 backpack
I’m a big advocate of using backpacks to carry my photo gear, mostly because they’re much better for my back. This was already discussed somewhat in Dealing with Camera Wrist/Shoulder/Back Pains. It’s also a lot harder to rip a backpack off me in a crowd than it would be a shoulder bag. On a big shoot I’ll use my Pelican 1510, but for smaller shoots or walkabouts that’s overkill – in those cases I prefer for my gear to be evenly distributed across my back. Here I’m going to test the new Lowepro CompuDay 250 backpack.
Field Review: Leica X1 (Day 1)
When it comes to cameras, digital or film, there are a few brands that are more than just a name; they are more of a religion amongst their followers. For many, Leica is one of those brands. Their customers will drop more money on a small kit than many people will spend on their car, which is astounding to me – someone who doesn’t own anything with that revered red dot. So what does a complete Leica virgin think of one of their newer offerings, the Leica X1? Let’s find out.
