What Do You Want to See in the D700 and D300s Successor?

by Chris Gampat on 10/26/2010

With the features packed into well received D7000, one can only begin to wonder what the D700 and D300s will have. Will the ISOs go into an astronomically insane number? Will Nikon finally fulfill the clamors of their customers asking for more megapixels? What video frame rates will be available since the D300s’s were essentially null? When will they be out?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Also be sure to remember that there are rebates in effect.

    1. Full Frame
    2. D3s ISO or better
    3. better Dynamic Range
    4. D7000 Megapixel will be enough
    5. dual SD Slot
    6. Some mechanism to help to cool the Sensor in extrema long exposure and in video mode

I only have the D300S so I can only really speak on what I’d want in a D400.

More AF-points or, barring that, more cross-type AF points.
Faster shooting (9 fps without a grip, 11 fps with). Also, ideally there should be no slow down when shooting 14 bit RAW.
    Faster focusing.
A better AF Assist light. Not sure why these are always so bad to begin with.
    Built in GPS and Wifi.
A stop better high ISO performance.

I’m pretty satisfied with the camera for the most part so I don’t see upgrading any time soon. Maybe in the next generation after this coming one.

      D400
-higher ISO performance (nice if it could approach the D3s)
      -auto-focus video (like D3100, D7000)
      -faster frame rate

      D800
-video at least as good as D7000
      -faster frame rate

      Both
-how about 2k or 4k video? Probably have to wait for D4 or even next generation D5.
-faster video frame rate, 60 fps or even faster for slow motion shorts
      -wifi
      -GPS
-in-camera digital gradient oriented anyway over any part of screen
      -in-camera variable ND (digital)
-in-camera digital filters (color, infrared, patterns)
-programmable settings possibly from a PC application; would allow you to determine relationship between all settings based on light measurements. For example, you could change WB for sunsets to your liking. You could define which areas of view finder are used for metering to control weighting of matrix points

Higher ISO up to 12,800 or better in usable range.
7 fps or higher without the grip
    1920×1080 video
    Microphone stereo plug
Dual Sd cards – high density – no CDMA
    14 to 16 megapixel
    Video autofocus
AND replace in next 3 months or sooner.

Get rid of the flash and the bump that interferes with tilt and shift lenses.

Keep the same MP but extend the ISO range. Don’t spoil it with too many MP that are useless unless blown up to 36″

Add video with gain controllable audio (not AGC)

Plus and minus 2EV bracketing steps

PLEASE DON’T BE THAT STUPID, DONT fulfill the clamors of the customers by giving the cameras more Megapixel!! More megapixels is only useful FOR PRINTING and is bad for many things: ISO NOISE for example!
