What Do You Want To See in the Pentax 645D?

without comments

With rumors of the new sensor written about the other day and with the imminent release getting closer and closer, what would you want to see in the Pentax 645D. If it’s economical, would you want to get it as a second body or perhaps your first? If it doesn’t include tethering the way that their other bodies haven’t would you mind? Do you want better autofocusing than what other medium format companies offer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and let’s get a great discussion going.

I’d love to know the X-Sync for this camera. I’d say it is very important to know. Thanks.

That’s something I haven’t heard at all about. But you’re very right about that.

As a first body (with my 645 lenses), when the price will be as speculated. I don’t care for autofocus. Tethering OTOH for what should be an ideal studio camera seems a necessary feature and something I’d consider more essential than the best AF around.

Have you tried out Hasselblad, Mamiya or Phase One bodies? If so, how would you want this to beat them out?

Interesting discussion, I agree the X-sync is important… Hasselblad is 1/500 across the board, and leaf shutter lenses in the Phase One/Mamiya line will allow 1/800 and even 1/1600 with certain backs… Pentax has a couple manual focus leaf shutter lenses out there, it would be cool to see them updated. Also, who actually uses SD cards? Dual CF would be much more appealing

Agreed Matt. They’re probably going with SD because of the massive storage sizes already available in a smaller package. Then again, that’s a real rough-guesstimate. Phase One seems to be eating everyone up in the Medium format world right now. I love their cameras and the options available. Their lenses are another issue.

Pentax lenses though are so incredibly yummy.
